Ocean City Welcomes New Superintendent of School District
The Board of Directors of FOCUS (Families of Ocean City United in Success) is pleased to welcome Dr. Christian Angelillo as the new superintendent of the Ocean City School District.
Dr. Angelillo is an experienced and qualified individual who will contribute to and lead the Ocean City School District as it provides an outstanding education for our students. He will bring to the district a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm.
The FOCUS organization is dedicated to upholding key foundational principles of Ocean City with a focus on families, culture, heritage, faith, education, values and the public stature of Ocean City. With parents striving to ensure that their children are well-educated and prepared to succeed in the competitive and changing world we live in, the quality of the local school system is a core principle of FOCUS.
Dr. Angelillo holds many of the same core values that FOCUS is committed to. He, like FOCUS, feels it important to celebrate our past accomplishments, while working together to achieve future successes that will make us all proud.
He believes in immersing himself into the fabric of the community, to become a part of it. We could not agree more with that belief and we have high expectations for Dr. Angelillo. We will support him in any way we can to ensure his success, which will in turn ensure success for our community and our children.
Dr. Angelillo articulated the critical need to get to know what’s important to the people in the community, and FOCUS will take an active part in that quest, by providing direction and support through logical and pragmatic thinking to help address those myriad issues. We will harness the energy of members of FOCUS into working with Dr. Angelillo to provide guidance and offer solutions to current and emerging issues.
The Ocean City School District has been without permanent leadership for several years, resulting in a tumultuous period. FOCUS is pleased that the Board of Education made a commitment to conduct a well-thought-out superintendent search, and we are even more pleased that the Board of Education selected Dr. Angelillo, out of a field of more than 50 applicants. The quality of his background and leadership is evidenced by a unanimous vote of the Board of Education to hire him.
Angelillo's 29 years in education has spanned working as a social studies teacher, assistant principal, principal at both elementary and high school levels and superintendent in New Jersey.
Most recently, Dr. Angelillo was the superintendent of the K-12 Boonton School District, which had an enrollment of about 1,450 students. He earned an Ed.D. in K-12 Administration from Seton Hall University, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision from Montclair State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Philosophy from Fordham University. His many professional affiliations include the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association. He also served as adjunct professor at Centenary University in Hackettstown.
In addition to his classroom and administrator success, Dr. Angelillo has also worked as a head varsity track and field coach, head freshman football coach and a varsity football coach.
An avid reader and fisherman, who enjoys spending time with his family, Dr Angelillo is college football enthusiast and a devoted New Jersey Devils fan.
Dr. Angelillo’s passion about is seeing children reach their potential, grow and ultimately graduate better than they were when they started is very much in alignment with the core principles of FOCUS.
